Fino mljeveni i oplemenjeni prirodni anhidrit je bezvodni sulfat. Često nastaje kao produkt isparavanja morske vode i postupnim koncentriranjem slanih vodenih otopina. Anhidrit čini stabilni donji sediment ležišta gipsa te se može zasebno eksploatirati. Anhidrit se koristi kao visokoučinkovito punilo u industrijskim bojama, građevinskim kemikalijama, sustavima prozirnih lakova i ljepilima.

Posebno su važni njegova visoka bjelina i prozirna svojstva. Primjene: ljepila, prozirni lakovi za parket, boje (antikorozivne, prozirni lakovi).
